Cousins Ailwyn and Frank Smith had founded the Clyno Engineering Company in 1909 for the purpose of marketing an adjustable belt pulley for motorcycle transmissions
After WWI, they commenced production of a Coventry Climax-engined light car, the 1.4-litre 10.8hp
It was a great success with sales reaching 12,000 annually by 1926/27, making them the UK’s third largest car manufacturer
