The classic cars, spares and automobilia from lifelong classic car collector and enthusiast Dave Angel is being sold by Charterhouse on Wednesday 19th August.
“Growing up I often called into Dave’s legendary scrap yard, when they were called scrap yards, Angel Auto’s on Wardon Hill, Evershot, Dorchester where I would source parts for my trusty Triumph Herald.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Sadly Dave passed away last year and the family have decided now it the time to let his collection come to auction and be available for new custodians.”
Dave was well known in classic car and collecting circles. Whilst his business scrapped or re-cycled 1,000’s of cars over the decades, he held onto parts he knew would become difficult to find. He also restored many cars to high standards over the years and enjoyed many classic car trips including the Hero Inca Trail.
Cars in the collection being sold by Charterhouse include an incredibly rare 1962 Ford Consul Capri by Hooper at £7,000-10,000, understood just to be one of three remaining Hooper Capri’s of the 40 converted. When new, owners would buy a Capri and send it to Hooper where works carried out could double the cost with a leather interior, special paintwork, walnut dash, different switch gear and endless other upgrades, depending on the client’s budget.
There are also two Ford Zephyr Six convertibles, one restored at £15,000-20,000, the other original £7,000-10,000, a Kaiser Dragon £7,000-10,000, a Sunbeam Rapier convertible conversion which Dave thought should have been made but never was at £5,000-8,000, and a rare right hand drive 1938 Dodge Westchester type Woody £12,000-18,000.
In addition, there are vintage pedal cars, automobilia, Americana, petroliana and a vast selection of classic car spare doors, body panels, chrome work, other spares, wall art, brochures and books all being sold without reserve.
Viewing will be onsite at the Angel family property in Rampisham near Dorchester DT2 0PR on Tuesday 18th August 10am-4pm with the auction being held live online at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne DT9 3BS on Wednesday 19th August.
