Childs Play

A brace of kids pedal cars are in the Charterhouse September auction of automobilia.

“So much of what we do is about nostalgia and these pedal cars are all about nostalgia.” Commented Richard Bromell. “The cars will appeal not only to collectors of toys and classic cars but also to kids, or rather their parents and grandparents who will need to pay for the cars, who fancy pedalling down the road.”

First up, from a client in Devon, is a child’s Morgan Plus 4 pedal car. Constructed, some 70 years ago, this racing blue pedal car has been garage stored for years and needing restoration is estimated at £500-800.

Next up is a 1960’s Austin J40 pedal car. One of 32,098 Junior pedal cars were made before production ceased in 1971.

From a client near Bournemouth, this is perhaps one on the most popular pedal cars ever produced. So much so that there is a race at The Goodwood Revival called the Settrington Cup where aspiring racing drivers pedal away in their Austin J40’s to win the trophy.

Estimated at £1,000-1,500 this racy red Austin J40 pedal car is ready to take to the track or just down the road.

Both pedal cars are entered into the Charterhouse specialist auction of automobilia on 29th September at their Sherborne salerooms.

Richard Bromell and the team at Charterhouse can be contacted for valuations at The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne 01935 812277 info@charterhouse-auction.com where they are taking further entries for their September specialist auctions of automobilia on the 29th and coins, medals, stamps, clocks and collectors on the 1st & 2nd.
