A 1992 Jaguar XJS is going under the Charterhouse hammer in their specialist auction on classic cars  in July 2021 at Haynes International Motor Museum, and online.

“This car was a top of the range boulevard cruiser when new.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Costing nearly £50,000 it was just less than I paid for my first house back then!”

Jaguar is one of Britain’s best loved motoring manufacturers and is a name synonymous with luxury. In the 1950’s Jaguar introduced the marketing line “grace, pace and space” which continues today.

The Jaguar XJ-S was introduced in 1975 as the replacement for the legendary E-Type. Released with a 5.3 litre V12 it came in the wake of a fuel crisis when the appetite for a large engine tourer was small.

Over the years, the XJS was developed and made available as a coupe or convertible. It became popular with the rich and famous from Frank Sinatra to Lady Diana. Mattel even produced one for Barbie, in pink of course.

Whilst many Jaguar XJS cars have been through numerous owners and travelled far and wide, the XJS being sold by Charterhouse has just two careful owners. Over the past 28 years, this car has been used sparingly, covering an average of just 2,000 miles a year. Fitted with the popular and more frugal 4.0 six cylinder engine mated to an automatic gearbox, servicing has been by Jaguar and more recently maintained and MOT’d at the Haynes International Museum workshop in Sparkford, Somerset.

With the owner advancing in years, he finds he is no longer able to get in and out of the Jaguar easily, preferring his new Range Rover which today forms part of the Jaguar Land Rover group.

Finished in metallic silver with a grey leather interior, this be-loved Jaguar is estimated at £5,000-7,000 in the Charterhouse online classic car and motorcycle auction on Wednesday 14th July.

Charterhouse are now accepting entries for this and the next classic motorcycle auction on June 30th, also at Haynes International Motor Museum.

The Charterhouse team of valuers are available for home visits and valuations, whilst adhering to government guidelines.

To arrange a home visit contact Richard Bromell and the team at Charterhouse, The Long Street Salerooms, Sherborne 01935 812277 or email items for valuation to cars@charterhouse-auction.com
