Fire up the Quattro!

A 1986 Audi Quattro is one of the more unusual lots in the Charterhouse two day online auction in Sherborne on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th April.

“We have some great lots going under the gavel from a lifetime’s collection of cameras, a Rolex Submariner bought by the owner new in 1967 through to a 1938 cricket bat signed by the England and Australian cricket teams from the 1938 Ashes.” Commented Richard Bromell. “However, for me the star lot of the auction has the Audi Quattro.”

The 1986 Audi Quattro has had just three owners over the past 35 years. During this time it has been well loved and enjoyed coming to auction with an extensive service history contained in three albums and all but two of its MOT certificates from 1989.

The Audi Quattro was the first time the mass car market had been introduced to the intoxicating combination of turbo power and four-wheel drive, and the results were spectacular. The road-going Quattro was clearly a success for Audi, with nearly 11,500 cars produced, but it was as a world-beating rally car that the model really gained its fearsome reputation. Throughout the early 1980s until the end of the Group B era, Quattro variants won 23 WRC rallies at the hands of rally legends Michèle Mouton, Hannu Mikkola, Walter Rӧrhl and Stig Blomqvist including two world championships and twice championship runners up.

The Audi at Charterhouse is a rare opportunity to buy a well maintained four wheel drive turbo 1980’s icon with low ownership in a great combination of metallic black with a black leather interior.

The West Country owner, who bought the car 13 years ago, is looking to move to Scotland and contacted Charterhouse as they are well known for selling classic & vintage cars and motorcycles. The Quattro is estimated to sell for £25,000-28,000.
