A collection of 50 vintage car mascots are being sold by Charterhouse in Sherborne in their specialist Automobilia auction on the 25th of September.
“The market for enamel signs, car mascots and automobilia remains strong with buyers keen to add to their collections.” Commented Richard Bromell. “This combined with their decorative appeal results in these items, once relegated to the garage or barn, now taking pride of place in the house or, as in the case with mascots, on the desk.”
The mascots have been amassed by a Somerset collector over many years.
Many are comical or amusing such a one on the form of Mr Toad and some were produced by the motoring manufacturers such as the famous Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy.
Most are chrome plated or made in bronze, but there are also glass mascots from Lalique. Estimates in the collection range from £100 to over £1,000.
